The First UN International Year of Youth, 1985, celebrated as NAMYFEST. On the dais at the inaugural were Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, then HRD Minister P V Narasimha Rao (later PM 1991-1996) and the then Finance Minister VP Singh (later PM 1990). Also present was DUSU President Ajay Maken.
When the Second UN International Year of Youth was observed worldwide in 2012, Ajay Maken was India’s Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports. Prof Sydney Rebeiro was Chief of Coordination and designed the entire 5-day first–of–its–kind global event.
